Black Books and Reviews is the place for Life and Literature from the Black Perspective. We provide a view on today’s top literature, information on local literary events as well as a place to be turned on to and purchase reading material.
Black Books and Reviews.com is a web site dedicated to books and book reviews targeted to the African American market. The site will offer thought-provoking writings and reviews covering a wide range of genres: literary fiction; critical opinion and analysis; self-help, including health and personal finance; biographical and autobiographical nonfiction; religion; poetry and prose, and children’s literature.
The site will feature books, interviews (both written and video) with African American writers and profiles of African American authors and literary figures. The site will also feature calendars with book tours and dates, book fairs, special readings and new book publication dates.
Rodney A. Brooks, Founding Partner
Rodney A. Brooks has been a journalist for more than 35 years. He has worked as an editor or reporter for USA TODAY, the Philadelphia Inquirer, The Bulletin in Philadelphia, the Asheville Citizen-Times in Asheville, N.C. and the Ithaca Journal in Ithaca, N.Y. Mr. Brooks served as treasurer and member of the executive board of the National Association of Black Journalists for four years and later served as co-chair of the organization’s finance committee. He was a founding member of the National Association of Minority Media Executives, and has served on the boards of both NAMME and the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW). firstname.lastname@example.org
Jackie Greene, Founding Partner
Jackie Greene was on the start-up team of USA TODAY and has held several management positions at the newspaper including director of photography and editorial systems director. Prior to USA TODAY, Mr. Greene was a staff photographer at the St. Petersburg Times (FL) and the Boston Globe. He served on the Norfolk State (VA) University Journalism Advisory Board. Mr. Greene has been an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) since 1978. Elected to the executive board of NABJ in 1985, he served 10 years. He later served as chair and co-chair of the organization’s finance committee. In 2001, he became the first elected president of UNITY Journalists of Color, Inc. serving as president from 2001 to 2003. Alma Gill, Assistant Editor
Alma Gill has worked in various roles at USA Today for more than 20 years, including newsroom coordinator for the Money section and executive assistant to the newspapers two executive editors in print and online. After taking the buyout in 2008, she became the assistant to the Vice President of Leading Age. During that time she was asked to speak on Capitol Hill regarding the Obama Healthcare Initiative and caring for our elderly citizens. Unable to stay out of the newsroom, she has returned to journalism, and is currently working for the Deputy Managing Editor and the Universal News Desk Editor of The Washington Post. firstname.lastname@example.org
